What brand of dye do you use?
-This was Behlen Solar-Lux stain and "ebony" tinted Timber Mate as a grain filler.
How did you do the dot inlays?
-The board was pre-slotted and radiused. Using a ruler, I found the center of each fret and then measured out to where I wanted the center of the dot to be. 1/4" drill bit on the bench drill made the hole, then we just put some glue in and set the MOP dots in there.
I did a re-finish on a basswood guitar recently and struggled to get the grain definition. Do you think this is a characteristic of basswood, whereas ash has a more open grain?
-Yeah, you're gonna have a hard time seeing much of anything from the basswood. It's much better suited for paint than anything else IMO.
