I've been looking at drum machines for me and my bass player while I get my drum chops up. I have a question on programming hardware ones: Anyone know if there's software to program drum machines? Or if there are any hardware drum machines that you can plug in USB and program that way? I don't think I want to sit there and press buttons on this thing. I can program patterns and songs in software drum machines, so I'd rather just go the software route, but I can't jam with a couple people in front of my computer I've been looking at the Alesis SR-16, and it has MIDI in/out. I think the MIDI is for backing it up, and for using it to expand an electronic drum kit which is kind of cool since I have one, but I can't find anything about receiving a sysex dump and editing the patterns/songs on the unit itself and putting it back on to it. Anyone have any experience with hardware drum machines? I did find this software, but the guy is speaking fucking Greek to me, and the language he's using sounds kind of sketchy.
