So, I moved two weeks ago into a new apartment I bought.
I still have, despite having sold a lot of stuff, a sizeable collection:

1608989689465.jpg
I don't want to:
-Store them on the walls. Then I have to dust like a demon every two weeks.
-Store them out of the cases overall. Because then I need space for the guitars *and* the cases.
-Store them in the basement. I'm not sure yet about the hygrometry of the place. (it's a condo, basement is separate, I live on 3rd - and last - floor)

The "cheap but looks like shit" option is to just align the boxes vertically along a wall and throw a blanket/bedsheet over the boxes and just clean the blanket every few weeks for dust.

Anyone has better ideas, or actually implemented something ?

You have a multi guitar rack there, use that and put the cases in the basement.

Also guitars on the wall don’t collect a ton of dust. Floor is going to be worse.

If you figure it out, let me know.

I've got (all in cases) 3 in my closet, 3 up against the wall in the corner, 3 in a scott dixon case, and I bought some plastic platforms with wheels, laid down 3 on a pair, 3 on another pair, and rolled them under a sort of concrete ledge that happens to be in my apartment. I can't get to 70% of them without some amount of hassle.

I've been selling a lot lately to make space but it's still bad (and a Jackson Warrior case is just the absolute worst to work with).

Damn, you don't want dust on them at all and still keep them in the cases AND want to put a blanket over the cases? You must really hate dust and love to keep the guitars clean.

Honestly, I think they'll be fine in the cases.

... over there...
I've got a closet where I store my unused guitars. The guitars are in there inside their own cases. It's a clean looking solution, because you can use the closet for something else later down the road...

... but I always have some guitars out of the closet and INSIDE their cases/gigbags.

Man I feel you! We just moved in to the new house we bought. Both houses have three bedrooms but the last one had three levels with the top room would have been the attic so I had a lot of space. The new house has an attic but needs to be converted to a room and there's no money for that ay the time being lol. The 3rd room is tiny and barely fits my desk and guitars and amps/cabs. I think I'll sell one of my cabs but the guitars are an issue and I don't want to sell any of those! First world problems I know!

Concerning the basement solution, maybe the empty cases Inwould store but not guitars in the cases. If I remember French basements, they were quite humid and that's not that great. Plus if you have insurance for the house it doesn't cover the basement as it is considered "out of the apartment". Unless you have a cover that specifically states that. I had a bike stolen from my balcony and one from a common type area where bicycles were stored in France. Both case the insurance company made the same argument, even if the basement door had a lock and was locked when I left my bicycle there.

I currently have them like so16089944199368647819017523409478.jpg 16089944707295891473029584639603.jpg

So I feel you but you have to make do with the space you have.

I use this for guitars out of the case https://www.guitarfetish.com/Profes...r-Folding-Case-Folds-to-briefcase_p_2188.html and it sits in the closet so I can grab the guitar that I want to use to start tracking with in the moment, it sits atop a small 6 space rack that isn’t being used for anything else right now. All of the cases stand vertically in the other side of the closet, and I close the closet door when I am not in that room. That room is my studio, which is a dedicated room in my house.

I want some more pics of that purple esp v.

She's in need of a good scrubbing and cleaning, she's just out because I have no case for her: the OG case was stupidly large so it stayed in Japan and I negociated free shipping in exchange. she's not fitting into a regular V case either, the SKB V case has my Amfisound in it.

Man I feel you!
If we're honest, those are problems we love to have. ^^
In the end I'll possibly have a local artisan make me a cabinet or something, but as anyone who just bought housing, I'm broke for the moment.

If it's based on the RV/SV, then esp makes a couple of cases and a good gig bag that fit. If it's one of those one offs, good luck. My cousin has one of those technical house snakeskin carved top RRs with the lawsuit headstock. It's not the SV shape or the RR shape. Doesn't fit snugly in any case from esp or jackson.

I was going to suggest building yourself a cabinet or several wall mount storage shelves, but that requires tools, know how, and the willingness to put some holes in your walls.

It's tough when you have a bunch of hard shell cases and no good closet storage. My current home is like that in a way, whereas I used to have a large walkin closet in my office that held all my guitars and amps.

I feel your pain I have a much smaller collection (6) and trying to find homes for them all in my townhouse is tough.

Also it appears you have some explorer and V porn you have been holding out on us!! You need to introduce us to the gang sometime. Hope you enjoy your new housing :)

I’m in a similar situation right now. Overseas and I brought/bought 15-20 guitars with me. All of them fit in one closet.

Here is a pic of the closet I have them in. My son decided to hide in there while I was rearranging. But as you can see I can stack 8 sideways (guitars and/or small children) and then a second row in front for 16 guitars. Plus I have the rest on top. If you put taller cases on either side then the ones on top will rest on those (like a bridge) and then you can easily extract what you want. I put the ones that get most play in front and then readjust as needed (like I was here).

I had a taller closet back in the US that wasn’t as wide and I fit 40 guitars in there! You’d be surprised how many you can fit. And you can leave out 3-4 cases and it still looks neat. I have covers or a black towel to cover everything and you’d never know the corner of our living room is my studio lol.

And if you don’t have a closet where you want one, Walmart and Target sell wardrobe closets that work great.

Also, as a last resort if you stack them in living room throw a nice couch cover over them.... at least it won’t look nasty.

get a tall double (or better King size if there is room) bed with under storage/space. That probably stores 6 hardcases comfortably.

Leaving 6 to find room for. Any cupboards meant for utility stuff or anything?

EDIT: You can make beds out of Ikea stuff as a Hack easily (its what ive done) and that can generate huge amounts of storage.
For example building a "loft" style bed with massive storage below.

This but with guitar racks underneath instead of a sofa? haha

Under the bed.
Get a bed that is higher off the ground and built for storage underneath. Tons of tiny-houses and RV’s have beds with gas spring assisted hinges; the whole bed hinges open to reveal storage space.

Or a storage sofa.

You remind me of the old ladies back from when I worked at the Piggly Wiggly who who say things like, "Put all of my groceries in one bag, but don't make it heavy."

Assuming your ceiling is tall enough (notice that these guitars stick up taller than the doorway), get a floor-to-ceiling cabinet to store guitars like this, with glass doors, a humidity meter and way to control humidity within the cabinet. Lots of low-cost, low-tech solutions for that. It would keep them mostly dust-free, as good (or better) than leaving them sealed in their cases, and as compact as guitars-out-of-their-cases can be, what with being double-stacked. Then for the cases, under beds, get a sofa with taller legs, stack one or two in each closet, hang one from the under side of your dining table...then you've only got to have a few out in the open.

Or don't put this in a cabinet, and just have a fabric panel draped over it to prevent dust.
