So I recently went through and found the very first song I ever wrote, about 10 months ago, and I compared to to my most recent, and the changes overall were massive!

That's the very first song I wrote 10 months ago.

And my newest -

The changes, from the mix, to the writing itself has changed a lot.

If you still have your first song, post it here, along with one of your favorite/newest songs you've written! I can't wait to hear everyone's stuff!

This was my first song ever, back when I used to listen to a lot of As Blood Runs Black and Fallen Figure :p

The band was just me and a vocalist. We disbanded a little while after this song and joined another band that needed a vocalist and guitarist

This is the latest track that we have released. Working up to an EP soon.

I know, that high hat is f***ing annoying. We are gonna rerecord the entire thing.

Here is a recording of my second band, I think 2001. For the Textures fans: Yes, that is Eric Kalsbeek on vocals :)

I will also upload something of my first band later. When bands sold demo tapes* to fans.

Pretty cool to see the difference, I've definitely gotten better over the years but still have a ways to go. :shred:

Oh man. My oldest song I ever recorded was probably back in 1999, working on a Dell laptop in my dorm room in college, "micing" up my amp with the built-in microphone on the laptop, and using Sonic Foundry ACID 2.0, recording and looping rhythm guitars and recording leads in 20-40 second snippets because that was about all my hard drive could take at a time. I'll have to go back and see if I can still find that somewhere.

Dat Concealing Fate Part 2 influence though ;) cool song dude!

Definitely not the first thing I wrote, but back in 2008 this was the first song I ever tried to record. Did this by sticking a shitty computer mic in front of my speakers and it was recorded into good ol' Audacity. Those were the days...

The oldest song I recorded in a studio was '89. Self recorded was '85 or '86.

My first song was recorded onto a cassette tape when I was a kid in the 90's. I made a lot of them, but I dont have copies, or even remember how any of them sound.

When I was about 15 or 16 (early 2000's) I got my first DAW (Cakewalk Guitar Tracks Pro), Built an input box with my dad and used sampled drums, my Digitech RP300 (i think), and my dads basses to record music.

That computer moved with me out to Virginia, then Georgia, but never made it back to California with me. :wallbash:

Luckily, since I burned CDs with about 12 songs I made and distributed them around my high school, I had a chance to get a copy back to me so I could remember what the hell I was doing.

The stuff's not pretty...or that good. Guitar was a late 80's MIJ Squire with stock everything. I used my dads Ovation acoustic bass and my "vocal mic" was one of those long, thin, chatroom mics  (back when there was Yahoo! Chat).

This one's called B Word, and all the words start with the letter B. I literally opened the dictionary and went to town

And this second one has something to do with an ex ...

I haven't recorded anything new in about a year and that's been eating me a little. I've gotten married and my wife is 6 months preggo, working 45 hours a week, ain't got time for shit, but hopefully sometime soon I'll get back into it. :yesway:

This is one of the last recordings ive made. The readily available technology at a musician's disposal these days is fantastic. If only youtube was around in my teenage years

I also have my first rap song I recorded...But that's a story for another forum:fawk:

This is my oldest recording. Made for a project at my first year at university, so about 6 years ago. At that point I've been playing the guitar for about 6 - 7 months or so.

Built the drums in Fruity Loops exported them and put them into Samplitude. Listend back to the drums on headphones and recorded my cheap Randall transistor amp I had at the time with a Zoom H4, I think it was. Then tried to sync those recordings up with the drum track. Ohhh lol, what fun that was ^^

As I'm now hearing this again, I remember that I actually double tracked the lead parts or at least the first of the 3 lead parts. I'm not sure with the other two, because I also remember copy pasting, putting one left one right, and delay one side by a bit because I thought it would make it fatter and cooler. lol

Good Times.

Far from my first one, but this is the oldest song of mine I managed to find.

The Pauligrinder - 3/4

I think I recorded it in either 2006 or 2007. I'd played guitar for 4-5 years at that time, and I had just gotten my RG1527. It was supposed to be a song for my band Aphasis which broke up in 2008. I found the recording on an old harddrive in 2010 and decided to upload it to avoid loosing it :) I still kinda like the composition, but those tones are pretty horrible :D

... and here's what I sound like these days, same setup apart from the computer and interface:

Did this cover of My Last Serenade back in 2009-2010 I think. I used Pocket POD for the guitar sounds. Gotta love those drum samples I used to convert from midi on some shady website.

This is a song from my first full gigging band, not the first ever written but close. Circa 1997 or so. I'm the guitarist. The singer has actually passed on in a car accident - crazy story in which he hit a police cruiser accidentally, killed the cop in doing so, and decided it was better to end himself at that point. Good lyricist though, i loved his lyrics!!

This is my old myspace - music I recorded about ten years ago, under the influence of BZP(a cheap, NZ version of speed) and cask wine, with a $5 microphone propped up in a box of wine against my Hughes and Kettner, recorded into Audacity, long before I discovered panning.

I actually kind of miss writing music like this - it sounds terrible, mixing wise, but listening to it I can hear how much fun I had smashing the guitar and jumping on effects pedals and making noise... Instead of sitting in front of the computer tweaking tones and never being satisfied and then not making any music. :(

This is my oldest track. It's from around 2001 and was recorded with two mics. I think one close to the kick and one for the room. I love the jam, nice 2-minute prog metal for the time. I forget how we did it but this was before computers and software. I think we somehow used my friend's sampler to do it.
