Hi Guys

I have recently purchased a Orange Rockerverb 50 MK3 which is awesome and I love the thick tones but boosted also gets super tight.

Since the new SLO 30 has been released a day doesn’t go by without my looking at pics or clips on ytube of them...

Do I need it or not?

If you don't mind the price tag and not have to get rid any other gear then yes. Or if you need to sell something then to try it in person first and then decide. It's the worst thing when you get the GAS for something and have to sell stuff to fund it, get and then find out it didn't live to the hype (for you) and potentially got rid of a piece of gear you were happier with.

There’s no way to know if you need it other than buying it and finding out firsthand.

Here's your cure. Why would you get the 30 when the 100 exists?

Sure you could have 30w of pure traditional sonic bliss but you could also have 100w and all of that glorious headroom.

You probably need to buy both. Its only money and you only live once. I look forward to both of your NAD threads.

Ran the numbers and I can confirm that science agrees you need the slo30.

The SLO30 literally looks like the Ultimate amp to me, personally. For my use, it’s even a better proposition than the 100 as you can turn it up more and get the power amp into the equation before making everyone deaf. I can’t imagine ever turning the 100 into the sweet spot (supposedly 6 or 7 on the master) in my playing situation, I am not playing arenas.

I almost bought a Hot Rod 25 after Mike retired but prices got absurd on them. The HR25 is an amazing amp and the SLO30 should be the next step up from that... more true to the SLO tonally and has the depth control; as well as the improved FX loop from the 25, etc.

So, I dunno about you but this the amp I have been waiting my whole life for.

TL;DR: yes, you truly need one.

I'm pretty sure I'm the minority here but.... I'm pretty meh with the demos so far. I mean it's cool that it's using real big boy tubes (6L6) but it's like $2500ish USD for only 30watts!? Honestly, if you can't afford the big brother, I'd look at other options or even consider the digital route (axe fx, etc). 100 watts will always have more balls than anything less, you don't have to crank it as much as you think to get proper pull.

I would literally never need 100 watts. I also have a EVH 5150 and Orange rockerverb (both 50 watts) and they are well more than I need.

If you don't need tighter low end and more clean headroom then no, you don't need 100w.

Modern amps don't rely on power amp saturation anyway. It's about the bass response and headroom (thus compression). It's not about volume at all.
