This American Life, episode 699 "Fiasco!"

This episode is a classic, my favorite light hearted TAL episode! Definitely worth a listen.

"Fiasco! Stories of when things go wrong. Really wrong. When you leave the normal realm of human error, fumble, mishap, and mistake and enter the territory of really huge breakdowns. Fiascos. Things go so awry that normal social order collapses."

Newcomers with Lauren & Nicole did their most recent season on all the Batman movies, as they've never seen any of them; previous seasons include Marvel, Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, and Fast & Furious - all of which they have somewhere never seen ANY of! It's quite impressive honestly to avoid so many pop culture franchises. They also did one for the "real" MCU - the Madea Cinematic Universe, which boy, those movies are WILD.

I stopped listening to the majority of podcasts that cropped up during the pandemic, like Smartless and the IASIP/Scrubs rewatch ones; they tended to lose steam about a few months in and it'd just became those guys talking about day to day stuff, and it was like, not what I'm here for.

It's also been quite a ride watching from the sidelines as 2 Bears 1 Cave both blew up and imploded very quickly.

I feel like a few of mine were mentioned but:

El Segundo - Jiu Jitsu (and some MMA) stuff from the 2nd best to ever do it - Craig Jones. He's hilarious and has my kind of humor.

Shawn Ryan Show - He has some really good guests, and some out there guests lol I don't listen to every episode, but if you're a military nerd, he should be on your list.

Jocko - not much recently, but he's the man.

Lex - as someone else said, more intellectual Rogan, but I'm not much of a tech guy, so I mainly listen when he has Jiu Jitsu/MMA guys, and sometimes his more politcal guests.

Ben Shapiro/Matt Walsh - not my go-to's, but they generally cover the same things. They both have some stuff I agree with, and other things I don't, but generally they're a good listen.

Dan Bongino - probably my favorite political podcast. He is usually really great, though he has some things that are quirky and odd. Great insight.

BJJ Mental Models - nerdy Jiu Jitsu guy

EJJ Podcast - more nerdy Jiu Jitsu guy (his brother even)

Lately I've been listening to...

Conan O'Brien needs a friend. Conan still has it and this podcast has some of the funniest conversations around. And Conan has such a great chemistry between Sona and Matt. Great stuff, never disappoints.

Tales from the stinky dragon. Great and fun D&D stuff.

Hello from the magic tavern. A damn funny podcast from the magical, fantastical world of Foon! There has been ups and downs in the 9 years they've done the show, but sometimes they're so unhinged with their guests and characters, that it just tickles me. And it's improvised! It's the only podcast/anything that I am currently subscribing in patreon.

Oh man, what happened that it imploded? I really like Segura's stand-up but tried listening to the podcast at the start of the pandemic and gave up after 4 episodes where it seemed like they spent more than half the time talking about porn.

I mean, the long and short is just, too much too quick and it went to their heads basically; you can hear it in Tom's routine as he's gotten bigger just by his own merits with stand-up, starting YMH with his wife (who I find truly insufferable) and then by being buds with Rogan and getting that bump, and now he's talking about like hanging out with Brad Pitt instead of how people used to just talk to him about a hat he was wearing in an airport. He also lost all that weight, which like, good on him, this isn't about that by any means, but now he's also acting like he's better than people because he did that etc. So he's looking better, dressing better as part of it, and just acting like a knob, and spending money like there's no tomorrow, and he's just become generally out of touch with his fan-base.

He lost his shit on a plane and has been doing damage control ever since, and the two of them have been banking episodes for as long as I can recall hearing about, because they're busy guys with full productions behind them, and now like every other schmuck team - they decided to put out a fucking VODKA! Who could have ever guessed that a podcast co-hosted by the guy who's been retelling the same tired bit about a night in Russia, would have gotten to this point? Oh, everyone of course, because it's the natural pivot for every hack these days. Make a mediocre-at-best alcohol, slap your name on it and dress up the bottle so it seems boutique, and hope the fans keep buying it for the name versus the quality. The merch was recently outted as being misrepresented too, the photos use a different brand of t-shirt than what people received, and its not nearly as good for obvious cost-saving reasons.

There's so much out there about the rise and fall of it, just take a brief look
