I've been seeing that most of the new Schecters for 2013-2014 specs are 19mm at the first fret and 20mm at the 12th fret, wile even Ibanez specs are 19m at the first fret and 22mm at the 12th fret. If these are really correct then sounds like Schecter now has some of the thinnest necks around now. Anyone else Try out any of these new Schecters and can verify this? I did try out a new Hellraiser C8 and was shocked at how thin it was for an 8 string and especially a Schecter having that reputation of baseball bat necks. just wanna hear peoples input about these new Schecters....this might sway me even more to get a new Schecter!:shred:

I've had extensive experience with the newer Schecter 7 and 8 string necks. The 7 string neck is probably comparable to the Wizard 2 as far as overall thickness, with maybe a little more shoulder/roundness. The 8 string, in my experience, is another animal (I have an Omen 8 and a Damien Elite 8); they're super thin with little to no shoulder... they "feel" skinnier than the Ibanez 7s and 8s I've played. :2c:

The new schecter necks are awesome. The neck on my JL7 is really comfy and very thin.

Guess I'm not playing Schecter. Sigh. I liked my old one but this obsession with dangerously thin necks has got to stop. It doesn't help you play faster if you're actually any good at the instrument, it doesn't sound good, and it's not stable.

Its perfectly stable.. It's a 5 piece neck, it sounds great and comfort means less tension and faster playing. If that's not your thing, fine, but this blanket statement that thin necks sound bad and are unstable just isn't true.

There's no way you can differentiate the sound between a thick neck and a thin neck. A thin neck is as stable as a "normal" one as long as it's built properly.

I had a 2127z and the neck was noticeably thinner than my KM7. The KM7 by no means feels big or bulky (it still feels thin), it's just enough wood to grab on to. I also tried out an iron label 7 at guitar center and it was definitely thinner than my KM7. Granted the KM7 has a compound radius so it does feel a tad fatter near the neck. One of the best necks I've played.

I loved my old Hellraiser C7 just the neck was a little too fat for me, not too bad at all, not baseball bat, but I got small italian hands so a thinner neck for me is usually more comfortable, The Dean RC7 was WAY too thin for me, mainly cause it was so flat....The new Schecters seem to be a mix of the thinness of Ibanez but with a more roundness of a ESP/LTD, which seems perfectfor me, dont like too flat of a back on my necks.:yesway:

There's plenty around. :) the new KM-7 and JL-7 both have the new SLS ("Super thin C") shape, and I find it really, really comfortable. If you didn't like the thicker Schecter necks of the past, definitely give one of these a shot, I think they're awesome.

Numbers on a page fellas, numbers on a page...

I too obsessed over neck profiles before I went with my latest purchase but all the spec's and opinions in the world still didn't quiet my concerns, only ACTUALLY PLAYING IT did.

Not around me unfortunitly, the nearest guitar center is 30 mins away and they just had a C8 and a C1, then others are at least an hour away and still dont have much in stock, so damn annoying! I may have to order all the ones I'm considering and return them within the 30 day return period guitar center has haha.

Does it bother anyone else when you go try out a guitar the action is high as hell and the neck is bowed? I almost wanna get out an allen wrench and screwdriver and fix it :wallbash:

Technically, the shoulders and profiles are really make the difference. I still feel like the Schecters are a bit "rounder" and don't have that carpal-tunnel-inducing flatness of the Ibanezes.

However, you are right in that the Schecters now are indeed thinner than the Ibanezes. This makes me soooo happy!

(Word of warning though: I posted this same topic awhile back when the new Schecter lines were first introduced and everyone...meaning all the Ibanes fanboys...freaked the f**k out.)

I played some of the newer necks at the GC across from where my old store was. I was very surprised and pleased. I never really liked their old thick necks, especially on their 7s and these new profiles make their guitars feel much better while playing. I'm really glad they started doing that, I'm sure more people would be interested in purchasing them with the thinner necks than not.

If you look at their 2014 lineup you'll see that out of the twelve series of guitar they produce there's only three of them (Banshee, Blackjack sls and Hellraiser Hybrid) that have the new neck profile and all the rest use the old one.

Thats the "ultra thin C" which is 19mm but pretty much very other model has 20mm which is much thinner than the old models still. I believe they were more around 22-23 mm depending on model and how many strings.

I'll need to get a caliper to check for sure, but comparing my '09 Hellraiser C7 with a 2014 one they seem to feel pretty damn close if not the same. I don't think that profile has changed in a while, at least.
