These are really nice pickups and tight but not my cup of tea. They have less output than the Blackouts but are still quite hot. They have a similar output level as the EMG 81-7 pickup but are more dynamic and full sounding. Especially the bridge pickup is like a tighter, more dynamic and thicker EMG81-7. It also has better cleans for sure.
The neck pickup is quite tight and modern. Not as bass heavy as the EMG 707 and significantly tighter. The EQ curve is not that much different that bridge Retribution but it is bassier, fuller sounding and smoother than the bridge pickup.
These were an improvement over the EMG set on my Jackson SLAT3-7 but I prefer the regular blackouts in that guitar as I wanted that sound in that guitar. I tried them on the LTD EC407B and while they were really cool there to, in that particular guitar I liked the EMG's better.
The only drawback I feel these pickups have is that they seem to cancel the tone pot out somehow. Turning the tone pot has minimal effect on the EQ curve of either pickups. It's perfect for guitars with no tone knob or if you never use it and are afraid it might mess your sound when playing live and the tone pot moves but if you actually like playing around with different sounds then you might not like this aspect of them.
The box is a bit battered but the pickups are in excellent position. If I had another guitar with actives I'd keep them to have a variety of sounds but as it is they're just in my drawer sitting there.
I'd prefer to keep it in the UK or if you're in N.Ireland and Ireland and nearby Derry I can see about delivering them to you myself. If you're in the EU I'll see what the shipping cost is and subtract the UK postage part which is covered in the price I'm asking. Sensible offers will be considered. I'm not really looking for any trades at the moment unless you have an EMG 57-7/66-7, a SD Loomis 7 set, a SD EMTY 7 set or a Fishman Fluence Modern 7 set in soapbar format. I might consider a partial exchange plus cash on your side for a Dimarzio D-Activator 7 bridge or a BareKnuckle Warpig open coil bridge or set which we can discuss any cash from your or my side (depending if it's the bridge or the set).
