Sweet guitar man. Very cool. Who doesn't need a pink guitar in their life.
As far as customs go there is a rhyme and reason. Either the shipper can take care of duties and taxes at point of purchase or the receiver has to take care of it. It's all based on the invoiced value. At minimum you'll get charged provincial/federal/HST so depending on your province it's 5-15%. If you clear it through customs yourself you can avoid paying a fee to the brokerage firm and a handling/COD fee to the courier company. Duty is an extra tax you pay if the item is made in a country we don't have a free trade agreement with. I believe it's 17%. So you could pay anywhere between 5-32% of the value plus brokerage and courier fees if you don't clear it through customs yourself.
Human error at Customs can also make mistakes in your favour and fail to charge you the right amount or put the decimal in the wrong place and charge you too much. Check your paperwork.
