Haven't posted in the recording section in a while as I haven't been making real moves on the metal recording side of things, but I recently discovered that Spitfire had put out multiple sets of free sample libraries as part of their LABS collection - not affiliated with them in any way, but just wanted to let you all know, as I've found them to be a great resource. I've been mainly playing with the various string packs, but all these samples sound really rich and organic - there's a nice drum kit for pop/rock/hip hop use as well. Download was quick and the VST is lightweight. I've included a demo below so y'all can hear what they sound like - all Spitfire + slight reinforcement using a Korg softsynth on the arpeggiated part - let me know what you think!

Sounds great! I'm about to get them too, they sound pretty damn good for a free plugin.

I don't even know how to use this kind of stuff but I absolutely will try now that I know something besides the wallet-destroying Omnisphere  exists

Cheap MIDI controller and Kontakt Player is enough to get you started man, there’s a shit ton of free great stuff out there.
I got one some time back. A little 20 something key that I couldn't set up, I'll be a little more motivated now that I have sounds to play. Is Kontakt the name of a daw?

Glad I could turn a few of you on to this stuff - Spitfire really did a great job here.

I got the Omnisphere suggestion so often when asking for recs for cinematic stuff - part of the reason I was so stoked on these. If you're looking for more, Kontakt is definitely the base you'll need. NI also makes Komplete Start, which has some great instruments and samples as well. Lots of movement in the freeware space this year. https://www.native-instruments.com/en/products/komplete/bundles/komplete-start/
