Pretty soon my 28' baritone is coming in (steinberger demon). I want to tune it to drop Ab and I don't know which strings would be better 13-62 D'Addario or 13-72 Ernie Ball. I have had good experience with both companies so I just want to know which one is better for the tuning I plan on using.

i like the d'addario set the best. the middle strings of the 13-72 will be crazy heavy for that tuning/scale.

13 seems pretty heavy even on shorter scales. You're obviously used to this tension? Have you considered kalium strings - cheap and convenient to mix and match etc?

Actually that set really isn't that bad at all. It isn't exactly balanced but it is quite similar to a set of .010-.046 in drop D on your daddy's telecaster. Not too shabby!

Daddy's tele
len 25.5
E4 .010 dapl == 16.21#
B3 .013 dapl == 15.38#
G3 .017 dapl == 16.57#
D3 .026 danw == 18.41#
A2 .036 danw == 19.54#
D2 .046 danw == 13.88#

OP's baritone
len 28
B3b .013 dapl == 16.52#
F3 .017 dapl == 15.86#
D3b .026 danw == 19.77#
A2b .036 danw == 20.98#
E2b .046 danw == 18.78#
A1b .062 danw == 15.48#

If i could make one change i'd bump up the .062 up to a .068, but i'd try the .062 first and see if you like it :)

OP's baritone with low .068
len 28
B3b .013 dapl == 16.52#
F3 .017 dapl == 15.86#
D3b .026 danw == 19.77#
A2b .036 danw == 20.98#
E2b .046 danw == 18.78#
A1b .068 danw == 18.52#

D'Addario also make 14-68. Would I be better off with those or their 13-62 strings.

I have a 28.6" scale 7-string that I use a .061 for low A that provides great tension. I think the .062 will be perfect.
