I've owned an Agile Intrepid Pro, LTD SC608B, and Ibanez RG2228, and as far as playability goes the RG2228 was the best. As far as tone, I thought the SC608 was better for rhythms.

If you're a fan of the Ibanez neck profiles (thin, flat, and wide) then the other two don't really come very close.

If I could get my hands on any 8 string it would be a Blackmachine. :metal:

The OP asked about production models, not customs.

My favorite production 8 would likely be the RG2228. Although those Agiles are damn tempting, and the new RGA looks pretty great.
Ibanez should do a Prestige RGA8, that'd be pretty cool.

I'd have to say the RG2228 is my favorite at the moment. I wanna check out a black machine one day I hear there badass. Finding one around my area would be hard:squint: What is the difference in the two guitars?

I've played the FM408, the SC608B and the RGA8 - i MUCH preferred the neck on the RGA8 compared to the FM408 and SC608B as it was more comfortable.

I'm planning to buy an Intrepid later in the year though...

Which one sounded the best?

So far, I've only tried the Schecter C8 and Ibanez RG2228. I liked the Schecter for rhythms more, but prefered the 2228 overall. Plus should I decide to get one, I'll just give it that 18V mod for some extra push over the cliff. :)

Since the OP specifically asked for production models, not customs, I'd say my Intrepid 28.625." I'm choosing that over my Interceptor 827 because I think the Intrepid just plays better. Although for practicality, I play the Interceptor (2 pups, trem).

*sniff* :cond:

 For 8 strings, I've only played the Intrepid that I have, no real complaints- but haven't compared with equivalent guitars. Max's thoughts hold weight though, in my books. :agreed:

I still like the Loomis most out of all guitars I've ever touched, if that helps. :D

I LOVE the rg2228, I've owned an Agile Intrepid Dual 828 but the scale pissed me off a little bit. I can't wait til I can afford my Ibby Prestige.

Im dying to get my hands on an RG2228. Ive played the ESP FM408. It felt alright, but i think i would prefer the RG2228 because of thin flat neck.
