The JCM800 being the same price as a Mark VII in the US is insane. In Europe the JCM800 reissue is around half that at ~1700€, which already feels like a ripoff to me. I'm sure we'll also get a special 50th anniversary edition in a couple years with Jim Marshall's spit mixed in with the solder...
I find the new Archon very dark. Like, wondering why anyone in their right mind would turn the bright switches off dark. Seeing you praise the inclusion of the bright switches makes me wonder if mine is defective... time to at least check biasing.
It's far from unusable, but I found a somewhat...
It really depends on the design of the power amp and your taste. Following Fender's recommendation is probably your safest bet. Shoot their support an email to make sure!
Bias measurements are across a 1ohm resistor, meaning the DC voltage you measure in mV is actually equal to the current flowing through the resistor in mA. As for the value you want to set it at, like Technomancer said it depends on the plate voltage, which can be different on each amp model...
I think for the "real" EVH Variac thing you should re-bias your power tubes to their new operating point, not just turn down the input tension. I'm sure you can find A LOT of info on the internet on what's the optimal bias for a pair of EL34 variac'd down, maaaany people have been trying to...
How do you like it so far ? The features are obviously impressive, but I'm mainly scared of the el84 power section. Have you had the chance to crank it yet ?
While it is a neat design for a logo, that version of the prototype looks horrible to me. Having it on the side like on the MT15 is like a cool easter egg, but I'd hate to buy an amp that has it front and center on its faceplate.
It should be a good step under the Engl or the Revv, and the price point reflects it. No IR loading capabilities, you get the analog speaker sim and that's it.
There's no USB interfacing either - I think for the Engl the USB is only used to load in IRs, it can't act as an interface.
If you...
