I really dig this as well. I also got the idea from jamming some Keith Merrow, as he tunes to drop Bb sometimes. I personally don't like drop tunings so I raised my 7 back up a whole step and....boom

It's been quite awhile since I've played a satin neck to really compare, but yes I would say they feel similar. The neck feels incredibly smooth and fast, and I would definitely say it's more of a natural dry feel than a coat of gloss.

Yeah I love the Ruby Red as well, I'm super happy with how it turned out. I was kinda nervous for a minute because I would see so many variations on the finish over at The Carvin Museum and didnt know how it was gonna turn out.
The cutaway has a bevel on it, very similar to an EBMM JP cutaway. If you look they took it RIGHT to the pickup, whereas when you look at stock ones you can see theres a bit more wood there.
