New Larada and Emi Legion drop this coming weekend, promising lower prices for barer (mostly cosmetic I assume?) specs. Headstocks will now just say “Legion” on them, no more Abasi name.

They also mentioned higher volumes and more constant supply, so hopefully their "runs" at that pricepoint will start lasting more 10 seconds.

That would be cool, but I'm curious why they are making these more affordable, and more available. It seems they sell out almost instantly, so I'm surprised they're being "nice" by keeping prices down. I'm happy about it, but usually a soft market would cause that, but clearly the market for Legions is not soft.
Can probably sell more volume if you produce more which can be accomplished by lower contract costs? I'm wondering the same.
Max usually seems to be able to answer questions like these. Any idea?
Probably just economies of scale. It's in their best interest to be able to produce a lot of those to reduce costs and have more people throw money at them. At least that seems to be the message... but I still can't find any stock on their website currently, 7 hours after launch.

That's wha I mean - they could easily have listed these at the higher price point, and still sold them. I mean, I appreciate the lower prices, and maybe I'm just too cynical and jaded to accept lower prices to be nice, but I just don't get why the did that. Unless this is a limited first drop of these, and this is meant to be a future tier that will have oodles of availability, and they didn't want to burn the people that bought them now, only to see the price come down in a month or whenever they ramp up. These were $2199 for the 8 strings so they went up by at least $200.

Yeah, but they said these were cheaper, ya? So have there not been more expensive Legions? I don’t follow this closely, so I’m just going on what the release note said.

They mean cheaper in relation to the Master series.
But fear not, these will be on Reverb in a week or two getting scalped for 3.5k
I've had 2 J laradas. 2 legions, a master series larada 8 and a master series emi 8. Even at their stock price, there are much better instruments. The J models were great though.
Really surprised these are even hyped still. I think it's less players and more scalpers trying to make a quick buck.

The perception right now is that "everything is so expensive" and it's starting to have an effect on purchasing, so they'll make things cheaper to make or eat margins a little and claim they're easing pricing which a lot of companies are doing now since they've sort of been called out on the artificial raising of prices since the pandemic which is blamed more on greed then nebulous financial terms like "inflation" that most folks don't quite understand readily.
Short of that, I think they feel they need to expand down market because they've likely hit something of a peak on the current price and sales method. I'm sure they could ride it out for another decade, but why sit still when you can extract money from more players that normally wouldn't be able to buy your product?
Selling cheaper guitars definitely doesn't mean less profit. Even on a per-unit basis. Perhaps less revenue in the same time frame, perhaps.
The benefits to the brand expanding outweigh any possible "cheapening" of it, except maybe for the flippers, but fuck them anyway.
I’ve had a similar experience with the Abasi line. Of all the models I’ve owned my white J7 is by far the best guitar I’ve ever played.

since I had a hard time finding reviews I thought I'd write up a review here for anyone interested in the new legion series emi 7 guitar. It cost me approx $3600 AUD (and approx $450 import tax which i totally forgot about until I was charged for it which was a nice surprise I'll have to thank the government for), and arrived quickly. my first impression was that it looks amazing, just as good as the pictures, but what surprised me is that is looks a lot smaller than most regular guitars because the head is a lot smaller and the body obviously has a massive cut out of the bottom (this also means the guitar won't fit on some stands). upon closer inspection there were no flaws that I could find. I am no expert but couldn't find anything wrong with it like I had heard about in a few reviews of the budget models. this one was made in south korea. I was obviously super stoked that they finally offered a budget version that happened to be in one of the colors I liked, this time it was stealth, which means all black and no stripe across the body like most other models.
the legion model has no tremolo bar, I think if I had the option I would have prefered once, since I don't have the budget to buy lots of guitars (at this price point anyway) I'm okay with slightly less tuning stability if it means i have the option of using a tremolo bar on the rare occasion i want one. the legion emi also has "LEGION" on the head stock instead of "ABASI" which is kinda weird and also is something i would have not prefered but I don't care too much about. finally the frets are fanned on the budget model, which i think i will need to get used to, the main difference being it makes playing bar chords awkward on the first few frets for me when you sit your guitar on your right leg sideways in the normal position for most people, it really encourages you to put on a strap and sit the guitar between your legs with the cutout on your right leg and in that position everything is very comfortable. I don't have any problems with the pickup selector or the tone/volume knob messing with my playing.
I haven't played guitar for many years so I still need to find an amplifier to plug into, but I have another guitar with fishman fluence pickups installed so im not worried about how the guitar will sound I remember I thought they sounded just fine. again keeping in mind i am no expert so i wouldn't know much about what sounds good or bad but to me they sound just great and better than the other regular no name brand pickups.
if abasi concepts offered a master version of the guitar with a tremolo bar in a color that I like (I'd like a lot of them a lot more if they didn't have the stripe separating the gloss cutouts from the mat front facing part) or in full black/stealth like the legion, I would seriously consider selling the legion and my original 7 string ibanez I got when I was a kid (with a tremolo bar) and then buying that instead. but once you are paying $6000-$7000 for a signature guitar then I imagine there are a lot more very high quality alternatives available...

The "relic" finish just does not work on these weirdo space-cyber-futuro guitars.

I’m not sure what the thinking is with these. If I had $4k and wanted a strat I’d be looking at Fender Custom shop, suhr, EBMM BFR cutlass, PRS private stock silver sky, K-Line, Nash, ect (and still probably have some cash leftover)
If they can the price point on these (and the space Ts) down to sub $2500, they might be interesting. I’m just not sure why they’re wasting production capacity at their builder on this when the 7s and 8s still fly off the shelves (other than these are way cheaper to build).
