I'm a little drunk and this question just popped into my head. If you could magically be endowed with the abilities and knowledge of any guitarist, living or dead, who would it be? I'd probably pick some fusion guy I guess. Maybe Tony Macalpine? I don't know.

This may seem like an odd answer, but Kurt Cobain...not so much for his playing abilities, of course, but his songwriting abilities. If I could write one song even a quarter as memorable as "Smells Like Teen Spirit", I'd be happy.

Jason Richardson for pure technical finesse, David Maxim Micic for tasty licks.

Greg Howe, he makes everyone else look like they are hardly trying.

Josh Travis. Used to be Dino Cazares, but I'm about there now after many years.

Tony Macalpine, Frank Gambale, Guthrie Govan or Steve Vai. The absolute technical mastery and feel for the instrument just lets them play whatever they hear in their heads and it sounds so damn good because they can not only execute the technique aspects but making the phrasing and feel of the music so listenable.

I would say it'd be myself, but I'm not there yet :)

If I really had to write a wishlist, I'd say as expressive as David Gimour, as creative as Steve Vai, as tight as Jed Simon, as confident as Guthrie Govan, and many more parallels...

Myself... in an alternate reality.

One of which I actually took the instrument seriously and practiced.

Always wondered how good I'd be right now if I was disciplined and took lessons or something.
