Hi! I just bought this Ibanez 7621/7421 from a friend, total cost 300€.

I was also wondering if anyone could help me out with identifying this guitar. I took the neck off to check the model number; neck said 7621, the body is obviously a 7421 (tear drop saddles etc.) The second number had faded so not sure what it says. Serial number of this guitar is F9958379. So is this a 7621 or 7421. Im confused.:frantic:

The pickups have also been changed to Bareknuckles but i have no idea which ones they are. I tried googling them but didn't find anything useful.:)

Anyways a nice guitar in great shape, and for the price it's amazing.20190404_190736.jpg 20190404_191026.jpg 20190404_191400.jpg

One can differentiate both models by the pickups' routs. 7640/1 models have different pickups routes.

Correct.

The pickups, routes, and bridges are dead giveaways for those who don't want to remove the neck.

The trem models are kind of obvious to ID, one has the Lo Pro Edge trem, the other doesn't...

True.

But if I had a nickel for every person who has come on this site not knowing the difference between the two, even with the wealth of information and pictures on the internet at thier disposal, I'd have more Ferraris than Yngwie.

Eh, sometimes it's just easier to ask. For someone who doesn't really know floating trems beyond the basic concepts, the ability to spot the differences from between one FR variant and another wouldn't necessarily come naturally, as differences that are night and day to connoisseurs are pretty trivial to average players. To most people, an OFR might as well be a Takeuchi.

And there's absolutely nothing wrong with that. :agreed:

Which is why I'm suggesting that less-guitar-nerdy ways to identify are better for those who need to identity what they have.

HNGD! I had one of those years ago as my first 7. Its the one guitar I regret selling. It wasnt expensive but the neck was so comfortable!

The easiest way to tell at a glance is the control plate. 7620/21 has a separate plate for the jack, 7420/21 does not.

Same with a 470/570.

The RG7420 most definitely has the second, small cavity cover around back.

RG7420s (complete with Lo-TRS and round tabs):

Not sure how you'd get the jack in there without a plate!

And HNGD to the OP. My 7620 has on my favorite necks of all time!

Japanese

Serial number is F99, that’s Fujigen 1999, right? Also says Japan right under the serial, no model number.

Has the old Ibanez pickups, and no separate plate for the jack. Bridge is hard tail, stamped Ibanez.

Apologies for the double post.

The body on mine is cleaner than any old MIJ Ibanez I’ve ever seen. That and the cover thing make me wonder if it’s a MII body with a MIJ neck. But I’m almost 100% sure the pickups are the same as the old non-DiMarzio MIJ pickups.

Posted a ton of pics in the other 7421 thread. If you guys don’t mind taking a look, I’d appreciate it.

Like I said in your other post, you definitely have an RG7621 neck, but it is on an RG7321 body. I've had several 7620s, 7421s, and 7321s, and I'm certain.

The pickups are one giveaway, there are blue wires, the MIJ stuff only has DiMarzio colors. The bridge is another, it is stamped Ibanez, the 7621 and 7421 didn't have that. The combined cavity is only on a 7321. The 7621 and 7421 had separate cavities for the barrel jack. And that is the last thing, the 7621 and 7421 had a barrel jack, the 7321 had a regular jack with a football plate.
