If I don't post by next week, have the police check with my wife........

Impulse buy while browsing GC at lunch... Got a floor discount that cancelled out sales tax and saved a little besides...

Can't wait to get home and experiment. First 8 string. Believe i'll keep it in all 4ths.

As a store floor guitar... There's a bit of minor belt bucket scratching on the back and bottom side. The very top of the headstock has a little nick in it. No edge nicks or chips though on the body.

As far as the potential RG8 manufacturing issues... The string ferrules are not all flush to the body. Tone pot is a little loose, needs tightened. Neck and frets seem good to me, but I'm not a solid judge of those things. F# has a little bit of buzzing, but I haven't had it setup yet.

Been playing it for about and hour, it's fun. Not sure if I'll mod anything, though I did glance over some of my pickup options while waiting to escape work. I think I'll probably be doing the pickups for sure. I'm torn on the idea of ever refinishing it. All black is kind of meh to me. If I ever wanted to change it to a solid color, I'd want the headstock to match... except I really kind of dig that pearl logo.

The rg8s iv played really only needed two things. a set up and new pickups. The mods can be cool but you don't really NEED them. hope your wife doesnt kill you.

O holy impulse buy!
Can change a life often times!
At least you can have a taste of the eighth dimension for now.
This axe seems nice from your description. I only don't like the headstock, but since it's a good working one, I guess I'll do with it as well should it be my first eight stringer.
Congrats! :hbang:

Has anyone tried the Duncan 8-string Invaders?

I want another one... I'm all into open tunings now and I think an 8 with an extra high string would be SO much fun to do that with...

Haha, my bad/lazy painting skills. That outlet has been painted over like 3 times.

I haven't touched my rg470 or rg7621 since getting this. I've gotten the ferrules fixed up and flush and the tone pot tightened down. The stock string gauges seem horribly light... The 8th is a 65... The 7th is a 52. I don't think I've ever used a 52, my 7621 has always had at least a 56 or 59. Didn't have a set to replace the strings with yet. Thinking I'm going to order a circle K set, probably .010 to .076 or .010 to .079 balanced. Seems like sets that most closely match what I'm used to having.

I've been fairly unhappy with the tone I've gotten on the lead channel of my old bandit 112, but I just got hold of a boss mt-2 and am much happier. I think once I get a better string set on here I'll be happy enough to wait a bit and put some serious thought in what (or if) I want to mod.
