Machine Head: Imperium

Oh man, I forgot about some of the Chimaira openers..."Nothing Remains" is my pick.

The Mindless Void
Michael Hedges - Aerial Boundries

Soul Whirling Somewhere - Opening the Ten End

The first three tracks on this record act like one bit opener in my book. Definitely one of my absolute favorites.

Swans - New Mind

Godflesh - Spite

Triptykon - Goetia

Ugh!

I'm so glad Chimaira is getting some love nowadays
Their older 7 string stuff just works so well and sounds so good
I'd kill to see them live :hbang:

As far as I know they're reuniting for at least a handful of shows... I honestly like Pass Out of Existence the best, so basically all of their 7 string stuff lol

So many strong openers here. I’ll echo many that already have multiple mentions in a few that comes to mind:

“Rotten Apple” on Alice in Chains’ Jar of Flies
“Monkey Business” on Skid Row’s Slave to the Grind
“Angel of Death” on Slayer’s Reign in Blood
War Ensemble” on Slayer’s Seasons in the Abyss
“Prowler” on Iron Maiden’s self-titled debut
“Women” on Def Leppard’s Hysteria
“Telegraph Road” on Dire Straits’ Love Over Gold
All four of the first ‘tallica records. No secret there.
“Bad Horsie” on Steve Vai’s Alien Love Secrets
“Beginning of the End/Face in the Sky” on Testament’s Souls of Black
“Black Star” on Yngwie J. Malmsteen’s Rising Force
“So What” on Miles Davis’s Kind of Blue
“Flight Over Rio” on Al Di Meola’s Elegant Gypsy
“Yankee Rose” on David Lee Roth’s Eat “Em and Smile
“Crimson King” on Demons & Wizards’ Touched by the Crimson King
“Holy Wars” on Megadeth’s Rust in Peace
“Saturation Point” on Marty Friedman’s Dragon’s Kiss
“Mean Street” on Van Halen’s Fair Warning
“My Medicine” on The Pretty Reckless’s Light Me Up
“To Bring You My Love” on PJ Harvey’s To Bring You My Love
“Tiger” on Paula Cole’s This Fire
“Bark at the Moon” on some Ozzy solo record, the name of which eludes me at the moment 😉

Killer opening to one of the best death metal albums ever made

Transition from this into ...For We Are Many is monstrous. This album is so so fucking underrated as is all of All That Remains' discography

Yeah I saw that they're gonna be playing at Inkcarceration in July
I love Pass Out, but I also love This Present Darkness. Songs like Silence, Empty, and the original version of Sphere, are all really good

I get that lol, but their later albums like The Impossibility of Reason and self-titled are really good, since they had switched to drop C 6s and everything got a bit more... raw?
Rob and Matt are really good musicians though
