B
Blackouts are weird pickups. I have one in my Ibanez RGR08LTD and a set in my BC Rich NT Jrv, they sound brutal especially on the crunch channel of the Ultra + or the boosted vintage mode of the Rectifier, but they really feel like a wall of "all the frequencies, all the gain".
I still love...
I was checking a set of 81/60 that didn't produce any sound, so I installed them in my Jackson COW6, I was surprised at how good the 60 sounded in the bridge. It's still high gain and tight but definitely sounds a bit more vintage.
Love it.
Unrelated, but EMG pickups seem to be less available...
I've only got 2 HSS guitars left (one Jackson Fusion and one Yamaha RGX1212s, both stock), it's mostly humbucker. I only use the neck for cleans and some solos, and mostly ignore all other positions and pickups.
After checking more reviews and clips, I've decided to try the 55 set in the end, if that doesn't work then it'll be 58/60a.
Anyway, I recently got my hands on an Ltd F350 that has dual 81s, and I had forgotten just how sweet a 81 in the neck is. Not as fluid/liquid as a 85 but fluid/liquid...
So I bought a 84 Explorer that was converted to passives, which are okay but not the best for metal.
So I'm thinking of putting EMG in it, just undecided on which set (guitar will be used in standard to play everything from thrash (Vektor/Coroner) to jazz):
85/60
85/85
Fat 55
58/60
I already...
If I like a guitar I always try to get several of them.
So I have :
Jackson DK2M x3 ( two swirls,one white)
Ibanez RGR08 LTD x2
And my #1: Jackson DKMG, in cobalt swirl.
Bought the one on the left for 350€, the bridge was changed for an OFR, and it's pristine. It plays phenomenally well, and it...
I used to hate them when I was a teen, now 75% of my guitars have some kind of FR bridge.
Out of them, only two are OFR, rest is either licensed (mostly JT580/590) or Schaller Lockmeister.
Lately I've enjoyed setting up FR bridges, I find it very soothing and relaxing.
My main tuning is D as it works for anything, any style, then C# for death metal stuff, with the occasional B (sludgier death metal, and jazz) now and then.
I'm not sure how much variation there is in LoTrs II block size, but I swapped out the one in my RG for a 32mm Schaller Lockmeister without any issue.
Something in that ballpark will surely work.
I love the distortion, it has the chunder I'm looking for, more than tight enough for my needs and goes well with both my mesa and peavey (not so much with the H&K).
I especially love it in mahogany guitars for some reason.
The neck version also works very well as bridge pickup, maybe slightly...
I'm really excited for the single pickup zero, I hope it will be available somewhere.
Even Thomann lists the other models, but not that one.
Given how popular the ltd black metal series is, that could help them get some attention maybe.
In:
Yamaha RGX 1212s (stupidly high quality)
Jackson WRMG (best X shape)
Jackson DK2M (crimson swirl, a classic)
Jackson SL2 Mick Thomson white ( excellent guitar, flawless)
Jackson SLSMG
Cort Performer
Ibanez RGR 465M
Ibanez RG45O
Hughes & Kettner Tube 100
Both the Ibanez and Yamaha are...
If you're willing to hunt for a replacement 10 years from now at whatever price it will have reached, then sell them. Otherwise just wait for better days and acquire new guitars then.
