Replacement pickups for Ibanez RGMS7 Multiscale?

This is still a very interesting topic, updates are welcome. I'll say, there's a lot going on here, and slanting pickups is easy (but risky), it's getting the pole pieces lined up that'll often be the problem, the bridge is indeed widely spaced. I have a (slanted) DiMarzio Liquifire 7 in the...

    Locking Tuners for Ibanez RG

If you don't want to drill, just tighten the but holding the tuners in (that's what I do with my Planet Waves Auto-trims. Please use a ratchet so you don't scratch anything.

    Locking Tuners for Ibanez RG

Direct swap with drilling, that's so metal.

8 string just for fun - Ibanez RG8 or RGIF8/RGIM8MH?

I was about to say yes, that's true, then realized I wrote this comment. Yikes.

8 string just for fun - Ibanez RG8 or RGIF8/RGIM8MH?

I guess EMG909x were used in 2018, EMG909 before that (I have a 2017 w/ 909 set)... Good point about the pickups. Come to think of it, the model that effectively "replaced" that guitar - the RGMS8 - makes pickup changes even harder (they're passive/slanted). Plus, the pickups are Ibanez, so the...

The "VS" Thread (Having trouble choosing between two or three guitars? Post here!)

Jackson SLAT8Q vs Ibanez RGIM8MH These are both multiscale, but the Jackson is way cheaper,. YET the Jackson has neckthru where as the Ibanez is bolt on (& Jackson is not wired for actives). I would think the Jackson superior but the Ibby price point makes me wonder if they'd really more valuable.

8 string just for fun - Ibanez RG8 or RGIF8/RGIM8MH?

I figure active are easiest since I don't have to worry about pole pieces (as long as I can get active pups to fit, it should work fine as long as I make room for a battery, no?

8 string just for fun - Ibanez RG8 or RGIF8/RGIM8MH?

That's Very helpful to know, Thank you. I have some great 8 string (passive) pups but I don't know if I could somehow alter them to fit (I.e. make them slanted) or route the the cavities for actives. A. Is routing necessary because actives don't fit? I.e. it's not simply b/c a battery cavity is...

8 string just for fun - Ibanez RG8 or RGIF8/RGIM8MH?

I have a Ibanez RGMS7 & LOVE it. Pups are okay but IDK about replacement options. I know the RGMS8 won't be AS comfy, but still... A previous comment suggested 9 string pickups (active, I assume) fit the RGMS8, is that true? Anything else fit (other than custom Elysian or Instrumental pups)?

Liquifire 7 AND D-Activator(n) - Unique Tonal Options?

I keep thinking about what you said 0rimus, mentioning the tight/chunky aspect of the Liquifire 7. It's a good point and makes me really really curious now to try it out in the bridge. I'm definitely trying that when I'm feeling less lazy, maybe even if I don't have a neck to pair it with. If I...

Liquifire 7 AND D-Activator(n) - Unique Tonal Options?

Thank you for clearing that up odibrom, you're 100% right. I can see that might be a problem, 0rimus, it's what I was afraid of. I think I might have to look into a replacement for the bridge, to pair with the Liquifire 7. I could go with Crunchlab 7 obviously, but I don't know how tight that...

Liquifire 7 AND D-Activator(n) - Unique Tonal Options?

Thank you odibrom, I appreciate your insights... Well the Liquifire 7 is definitely hotter, a 470 rating vs. the D-Activator 7's 380. Since I heard good things about the D-A7 neck in the bridge (e.g. clarity), & the LFire goes well in the neck (generally, but I haven't heard it in the bridge...

Liquifire 7 AND D-Activator(n) - Unique Tonal Options?

I have a basswood Ibanez RG7 (RG7320Z), with D-Activator 7 neck & Liquifire 7 (coming in the mail). The D-Act (neck) I plan to use in the bridge, but interestingly, both D-Act & LFire are "able" to be used in either bridge or neck position. What do people think of the options here? I "can" do...
