I have tried a few fanned fret guitars, and while it may be possible for me to adjust, the subtle movements I have spent so much time internalizing were pretty thrown off. I'm pretty happy with a 27 inch scale playing 11s and don't think I would need a multi-scale. I did love the way the guitars...
I definitely went for density in this vid. I was very excited to have Ibanez interested and did not wanna blow this shot so I tried to pack a semi short video with a lot of logically consistent material, and despite covering a lot of ground without much specificity I tried to emphasize the...
Hope y'all will appreciate this! Ibanez posted up my new instructional video this afternoon, it's about this technique I've been working on called "Glitch Tapping." I'm sure others have done something similar, this is just the path I took figuring it out. Let me know what you think, it's mostly...
Wow thanks everyone! My string are 10-78. The 'thumping' is the Wooten double thumb technique. Just a hard attack with a down and up using a small bit of the upper left corner of the right handed thumb. A good way to start is by hammering on a note with the left hand and then hitting the double...
Here is a short clip of some minor/Major 7 arps that were normally picked. Now I just thump them at the front and in this case tap them on top to get back. The term legato is misleading here because normally with guitar, the term usually just means little pick use and mostly hammer-ons and...
Thanks everyone! A crude double-thumb arp description would be to try to get comfortable with the hammer-on followed by a down up with the thumb. From there you can hammer on across strings and hit another double thumb at the top of the arp.

Trying to get this video out before we leave for tour. Lots of different techniques in here. I converted a lot of my sweeps and legato runs into double-thumbed arpeggios and it gives them an elastic, rubber-band kind of feeling. Also some under-strumming/tapping of 8-string chords and this...
Red Bull just released some videos of my band Little Tybee's new material. Some really nice footage of my John Dell'isola 8-string in there. Hope y'all enjoy it.
Wait for the ending on this one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MfY8Wsjbv9I
and another...
Hi everyone, just recorded this little snippet of some new material from my band Little Tybee. In the vid I'm doing some double thumb stuff, this glitch like dribbling of one note I have been working out, and I'm still trying to develop the 'under-strumming' thing (strumming or flamenco style...
Thanks a lot for the kind words! I would consider a solo project eventually, but for now I enjoy the challenge of trying to stretch the boundaries of folk/indie music while giving it some progressive teeth. I also really enjoy songs and I like good song writing so I'm happy to solely be a part...
Hi all, I just recorded a couple of double thumb snippets for instagram and thought I'd share. I'm trying a stuttering technique where I hammer on the same fret rapidly with multiple fingers with either hand. I don't have this stuff where I want it yet, so comments welcome! I play with the...
Thanks everyone for checking out and sharing that video! For gear, I use a 1x12 Orange cab with a Rocktron Voodu Valve preamp and a Peavey power amp. The Voodu Valve is super 80s and one day I may be interested in an Axe effects or something more vintage/analog (think Fender Twin with Blue Sky...
Thanks so much guys. It really inspires me to receive such appreciation from an ostensibly metal crowd. There are a few different techniques I'm employing towards the end of the song. I practiced all sorts L and R hand combinations from a beginner's snare drum book and then I started doing 3 and...
Here is a new Little Tybee video that's especially over the top, with tons of hopefully tasty 8 string nuggets. It gets pretty intense toward the end. Sorry it's not on youtube yet, this magazine has exclusive for now.

Thanks for the feedback guys! The new album comes out april 5th and is a much better representation of our current band. It still has its fair share of folky platitudes and cinematic soundscapes but overall it's much meatier. We barely had one drummer on the first album and now we have one plus...
Haha I don't really know if this counts as shred, but I do play an 8 string. There is some flamenco, tapping, slapping, and some weird sliding stuff though.
Let me know what you guys think, this forum gives great feedback.
