Anyone else stopped hunting for new music?

Went to Chaos and Carnage last night in Reading PA, mostly to see Cattle Decap. Humanities Last Breath was on the bill. They blew me away. Also, some stellar black metal I recently discovered is Mgla from Poland. 53 y.o., btw...

Can I make slightly muddy sound brighter easily?

Wow, so many options, I never knew lol. My original post was immediately following delivery and plugging the guitar into my bedroom amp, a Blackstar HT metal1, which is a 1w all tube practice amp. I have since plugged into a "real", "big boy" amp and, WOW! This guitar actually checks all the...

Can I make slightly muddy sound brighter easily?

Just received an Agile Chiral Parallax 72527 today. It has Cepheus passive 7 string humbucker bar pickups installed. They are slightly muddy in the low/low-mid range. Is there an easy fix to gain some brightness? I looked in the control cavity and see a 2A 473J capacitor installed on the tone...

    NGD: Agile Chiral Parallax 72527

Just received this today, a Sunday, so I guess Fedex is working OT for the holidays. Anyway, I've been watching this guitar for awhile on Rondo's website, and when they knocked off another $50, which made the savings $260 total, I pulled the trigger. I always wanted to try a fan fret and now I...

    Ibanez S series discussion

Thanks for this info. I was definitely wondering what previous model years had to offer.

    Ibanez S series discussion

Dude, you're an oracle. The links were EXACTLY the info I was looking for. Ruled out SA; the S body is the affliction. I'll still take opinions on the S series guitars, however.

    Ibanez S series discussion

Long story short: I went to GC today not even to look at guitars and wound up getting all googly-eyed by an Ibanez S521. It had the Ocean Fade finish which I didn't care for too much, but the features were decent and the playability was out of this world. The pups didn't sound half bad either...

    NGD Hadean ELS 8

Oooooooooo... I looked into this. I like this option. Only negative thing I've found is the preamp will impart some Blackout tone but will mostly boost what the pups are already sounding like. Do you (or anyone else here) have experience with using this preamp with less than spectacular sounding...

    NGD Hadean ELS 8

Well, it's black, it has 8 strings (YAY:yesway:) pups are muddy and pretty much sound like crap, seems pretty well balanced and no noticeable neck dive. No name on headstock. Came with a ding on the tip of the headstock from shipping. I've played 7 stringers with what feels like a similar neck...

    Hadean ELS 8 at Rondo

Yeah, it also has a wiring diagram posted for active pups, but the description says the pups are "SX passive". Oh, that wacky Rondo... I just checked out ebay. This brand new guitar is a better deal than any active or recent past won RG8 auctions new or used. Both similarly equipped...

    Hadean ELS 8 at Rondo

Eight stringer for the paltry sum of $169.95 (if the price gets edited out, it's less than 2 bills including shipping). Description says "extremely limited production". Description also says "New SX 8 string Septor". So who knows what "brand" it is exactly. Theres no name on the headstock, it...

    Suggestions for machine heads, anyone?

I am seeking suggestions on machine heads (tuning machines) for upgrading my newly acquired 7 string axe, a Douglas 727. I'm pretty sure I need what is referred to as the "mini" style? I like Grovers, which I like, but to my knowledge they don't have a mini offering. I am slightly biased towards...

NGD is here! Douglas 727 tribal green

It is a Grendel. And loving it, BTW, now that I found a tuning I like (GDGCFAD). And yes, in shopping around 7 strings I read a lot of bad stuff about the Grendel 727's, but realized those were old posts and the newer posts around the web were saying how good they were... and I agree! For the...

NGD is here! Douglas 727 tribal green

A few first impressions... I love the volume and tone pots. Super useable, proportional range and volume swells are tits. Overall, it seems to be set up pretty well out of the box. Action is equal to or better than many "mail order" guitars I've had. The top 6 strings are holding tune (I'm in...

NGD is here! Douglas 727 tribal green

Yeah, I did just crank the bottom string peg around trying to find a sweet spot. There was a few in there, but they didn't sound in unison with the higher strings. But I'm not used to new strings :noway:, and I'm not accustomed to hearing that extra string, and the pups just don't have the...

NGD is here! Douglas 727 tribal green

This is my first 7 string in 10 years. I had a Jackson. The fretboard was TOO WIDE and the neck was TOO THICK... so I sold it pretty quickly. Happy to report the 727 is much narrower and thinner. It's kinda a cross between a chunky Les Paul and pretty much any Ibanez. No jagged frets either...
