As some members here would know, I am a big fan of Ormsby's work and currently own a custom multiscale built by him and a few of his pickups.
Aside from guitars, pickups and servicing, Perry Ormsby also regularly holds guitar building courses in Perth, Western Australia. I will be attending his first multiscale guitar course in January.

This thread is set up to promote Ormsby's work and upcoming events.
I am not associated with Perry Ormsby's business nor do I receive any financial or material benefits from him, however he has given approval for me to create this thread. I have spoken with MaxOfMetal prior to making this thread and he has given me the OK provided I make it clear that I am technically associated with Ormsby Guitars as a customer only. I hope that makes sense.

On to the guitars!

First up, Ormsby Guitars custom pickup competition!

Just follow the link above! This is a worldwide competition so anyone can enter.

Guitar Setup Courses
Ormsby Guitars is pleased to announce a national guitar setup and fret leveling maintenance course. These are currently planned for Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne for early to mid 2013.

That last one there (your custom) is the only one that's not a paper-bagger, IMO. From the neck down, the rest look sweet, though, and yours is awesome.

Now here's something special. This Ormsby bass was made in 2009 for Kelly Garni of Quiet Riot. Aside from the incredible detail, choice of materials and overall finish, the guitar contains a piece of metal history.

EDIT: My apologies but I can't get links to the full size pictures so you'll have to use the link to the webpage at the bottom of this post.

The quilt in the maple near the forearm is incredible.

A question on the reverse-slant neck pick-up: Do you notice it changing the tone difference between your treble and bass strings? The reverse angle is part of what give a Tele it's twang, and why many don't like straight pick-ups on multi-scales.

The shorter trebles are supposed to have a warmer, sweeter tone, while the longer bass stings would give them a tighter tone. Also, 22-fret tones tend to be warmer (further from the bridge) and 24-fret tones tend to be tighter (closer to the bridge).

Do you find the difference between the bass and treble strings less noticeable? Kind of like how some folks like there bridge pick-up closer to the bridge on the bass side and a bit further away on the treble side?

Hey Ray. I contemplated answering your question but couldn't express it in a clear manner. I also have never owned a strat and am primarily a metal player so I think my judgment/perspective may not be the best. So, I went to the man himself.
Here is Perry Orsmby's response and then some.

the neck pickup slant was designed to achieve a fender necks style tone on the bass side, and middle pickup tone on the treble side. Basically, as you get closer to the neck pickup whilst soloing, it starts getting harsher, twangier. Normally you'd flick to the middle pickup to stop that (pickup is further from the fretted note). The difference in tone, is negligable for normal playing, and creamier, or less twangy, when up at the 24th (compared to if that pickup was right there).

Plus, it allows me to build the neck joint with more access. The reason for 29 frets was never to 'have more than anyone else', but simply to fill the gap between the fretboard end and pickup, and extend the neck shaft further out so the neck heel is still an inch from your thumb when you have ALL fingers rest against each other, and your pinky on the 24th.

While kinda cool, it's also a little creepy because IIRC, one of Randy's nails in encased in amber or something on the headstock.

quickedit: indeed it is.

My fav luthier in Australia hands down. I played one of his multi scale 7s at a guitar show a few years back and it blew my mind. All of his work is world class and the guy is really nice.

Thanks for doing this thread! I've been a fan of Ormsby since I watched a series of youtube vids documenting a build and I've been itching to get a chance to check out one of his guitars. Does anyone in the New England area own one?

Pickup give away comp ends in a few days. Be sure to check out Ormsby Guitars on Facebook and like the competition picture.

Here's an oldie but a goodie. I wonder how many luthiers have referred to this series of videos when making their multiscale/fanned guitars.
