The black one is a USA xenocide RC7. Same price as the new one. Basically the same guitar, except for the slightly different bridge configuration, the new thinner upper horn on the new one.
The black one has a 18 volt mod, although I don't think there's a huge difference in pickup...
One of the semi-customs that the Dean USA shop does. Nuclear slime burst on flame maple w/ maple fretboard and xenocide inlays. This one had been on ebay and some other sites for a while and I finally decided to pick it up. The RC7s are one of my favorite builds.
This brings me to 9 guitars...
The Dean RC7 is a fantastic guitar. The USA made custom RC7s are stellar 7 string instruments and beyond playable. Ultra deep cutaway, ultra thin neck, really well balanced, really well constructed. Dean's USA shop can make some great guitars. I'm not super excited by their production lines...
I went to see Rhapsody and really liked the show put on by Voyager, who had I never heard before. Sort of a gothy proggy thing going on. Their live show is what sunk it for me...they played the ghostbusters theme song and a bunch of other random stuff in a medley that was really fun.
Aha...
I found my old thread here:

So maybe this one can be closed. I don't know which is more interesting or likely to yield more information I can go on.
Wow, I posted this a long time ago. Okay I can frame my current problem better here.
So I did the Tom Hess thing that was suggested above. It was pretty good. I learned some theory, I learned a LOT about lead...in fact my lead and improv greatly outstrips my chords. I didn't learn much rhythm...
I'm in a quandary.
I started played about three years ago. I work full time and am older (35) so I'm not playing to have a career. But I do desire to continue to develop my skills and improve.
I took lessons from Tom Hess for the past few years and this was good for getting started. I have...
Necrophagist was great and if they can pull off a great new album more power to them. So many awesome bands inspired by what they did. I would love to hear more and even better if they find a way to evolve. I think it's fair to hold doubts, but also be excited for the potential.
Good questions.
Okay so I tried holding it strings down. It goes about 10 cents flat that way. 5 cents sharp if I hold it strings up.
This is with no bar. Let me see what happens with the bar on...
Bar position doesn't seem to make a difference.
- 6 String Carvin Becker
- I just put new 10s...
I notice on my Carvin that when the guitar is in tune in playing position, rotating it so it's in my lap changes the tuning by several cents (the guitar goes sharp). I haven't seen this happen on my RC7 that has a FR. I assume the weight of the bridge changes the balance of the float a bit, but...
I had fret buzz on my Hellraiser. I took it to a local luthier (Mike Lull) who plecked the frets and did other standard adjustments. The action is now super low with no buzz. So it could be that your frets are a bit unevenly worn and could use plecking? But this is a little expensive so I'd...
They originally killed their superstrat line for exactly that reason. Based on this interview:
Full Speed Ahead: Jeff Diamant Talks About the Future of DBZ Guitars | The Tone King | TheToneKing.com
It sounds like passive routing is available. He talks some about why he brought back their...
It looks like they changed the headstocks on nearly all their models. I wonder if the new headstocks are lighter / meant to reduce the neck dive DBZs suffer from. They also are apparently moving away from the V-cut neck that was also a problem with their models.
