    The Laney Ironheart Owners Thread

Yeah that's a nice thread over there. No clue as to what the guy did to his amp. But I'm a bit skeptical about converting it to 120w. It shouldn't be that easy.

    Laney Ironheart 120 Issues

I suspect a faulty Smart Gate.

I think it's one year at the store you bought it, with receipt of course.

How to connect MXR Noise Clamp FX loop

You gotta watch your channel volumes when using a gate in the loop. Too much gating and too little channel output will trigger the gate and cut your signal. That's my problem with gates in the loop. Gotta adjust them whenever I change the channel volume.

    Clean channel example. Warning! Un-metal content! Squier Tele -> EHX East River Drive -> IRT60H -> Mooer Ana Echo (loop) -> 6505 4x12 -> SM57 clone https://soundcloud.com/nlaplante/there-are-no-words-cover

The onboard boost is usable from 0% to 50%. More than that and it farts. Try lowering it below 50% and adjusting channel gain. The only time I use the boost above 50% is when I play my Tele on the clean channel and I want some grit. EDIT: the boost is also very sensitive to pickup output. Eg...

The onboard boost is not well suited to active pups imho. It reacts much better to with passives. With actives, I never run it above 3 (9 o'clock). With actives, it's generally on 5 (12 o'clock) for metal.

Those are perfectly fine tubes. Well suited for guitar application. But in your case you want to increase headroom, so by putting a lower gain tube in the phase inverter you reduce the signal level sent from the preamp to the power amp, thus reducing power tube saturation. Also, I think that at...

The LPS is rather high gain. You would have to downgrade tube model. 12AT7 would be better suited I think.

Headroom. The 120w might have more. Try a lower gain tube in the phase inverter maybe?

Amp suggestions, Laney IRT or. . .

The IRT60H's clean channel is so much more than just passable! My 2c

    Overdrive pedal recommendations

The ZW44 is really nice to boost an amp. It's like its main purpose. However, if you want your overdrive pedal to be used for lower gain stuff (say with a strat or something) over a clean channel, you might be disappointed a bit by it. Just my 2c. I replaced it with an EHX East River Drive and...

I've been playing a lot with my low-gain-friendly squier telecaster lately. This amp can deliver awesome (= great) vintage stratty/tele-esque tones when using either the clean channel cranked over 8 or the rhythm channel with gain below 4. +1 for its versatility. The power tube break sounds so...

Let's talk about new pedals and how awesome they are.

I don't hear much about the Soul Food here on ss.org. I like both high gain metal and low gain blues stuff. The Soul Food is on my GAS list. Has anyone tried it as a boost to drive their djent/thrash/death metal tones? How does it compare to boosting with a TS9-style pedal? I've heard stacking...

It hypothetically should sound badass. ADVICE: I would never run the 6L6 with the switch on EL34. That sends way too much current to the tubes. I'd do the inverse tough, since having the switch on 6L6 would send not enough current to the EL34.

Ye Olde Metalheads Thread (post up if your 30 yrs +)

33 here. If I remember correctly, what turned me into metal was Sepultura's Territory. Thought it was brutal but cool. I then started to collect cassettes of various genres of metal (Ozzy's Blizzard, Sabbath's Dehumanizer, then Ozzy-era Sabbath (all of them)). Then I heard about Pantera. Far...

    Budget amp options

Also the studio uses EL84 power tubes (IRT60/120: 6L6 or EL34) and has 3 preamp tubes instead of 4 in the bigger heads.
